Today's Old Course Round

My Old Course St Andrews Caddie round yesterday was 4hrs 55min...in atrocious 25mph+ wind conditions though I do not believe that can be used as an excuse...today's round, in slightly less wind, was 3hrs 30min! Goodness, this is how it should be all the time admittedly we were a 3Ball, we teed off at 09.10am and there were lots of local St. Andrean golfers in front so pace of play was always going to be good but why 5hrs yesterday!

Old Course St. Andrews Tee Times

Image
There are x14 afternoon tee times available for those avid golfers who are in the vicinity of the Old Course, St. Andrews, on Thursday 26th April. Goodness, those from overseas could get a quick flight tomorrow morning, transfer to St. Andrews, have a few beers, a good nights sleep, hit the range to get acclimatised and play the greatest golf course in the World. What is there to think about?!? Remember Caddie Golf Tours are here to assist with advice, tee times, transfers and accommodation. Do not be  afraid to ask!

Double Round on Old Course St. Andrews

Image
The first "Double Round" of my golf season over the Old Course, St Andrews, completed today at 20.00pm. I went out on my 1st round at 12.20pm and walked off the 18th at 16.25pm and was then driven out to the 5th green to catch up with three golfers, taking some of the strain of my old Caddie buddy Charlie who was looking after all of them.

Vikings vs Celts

The wonderful Vikings, led by Christer who has been coming over to St. Andrews for 14 years from Sweden, played a grand golf match against the Celts, otherwise known as the St Andrews Caddies, last Saturday on the Torrance Course at the Fairmont Hotel. The match was played in a marvelous spirit and weather conditions remained good throughout with the Celts coming out on top 9.5 to 4.5 in the head to head matches. Good friendships were forged and cemented over a glass or two in the Clubhouse bar and then in the ever accommodating Dunvegan Bar in St Andrews.

Freaky Weather on Old Course

My golfers have been rather fortunate weather wise over the last couple of days on the Old Course, St. Andrews. We have missed the early morning downpours and late afternoon showers. Yesterday I had completed my round by 2.30pm and after a spot of lunch thought I would like a wee knock around the Old Course myself, rather than Range Practice, and after a chat with the Starter I pop onto the 1st tee ...

2012 Masters Resume

A marvelous resume of the the golf that was on display at this years Masters from "Hooked On Golf".  The 2012 Masters was truly a wonderful tournament that will live long in the memory, congratulations to Bubba Watson for some incredible golf shots & escapes! I look forward to next year and the "new breed" of golfers that are coming to prominence once again battling each other on this stunning stage that is...Augusta, Georgia. http://www.hookedongolfblog.com/2012/04/09/2012-masters-comments

St. Andrews Golf Season Back Online

Access to the internet has been a wee bit erratic over the last week or so, hopefully things will improve this week. Now based in St. Andrews for the Caddie Season and will be looking to keep those interested in the Home of Golf with up-to-date with information about the golf courses, events, tours and the fun nonsense revolving around Caddie Golf Tours. Cheers, John.

Castle Course, St. Andrews

Image
The Oystercatchers Golf Society will be teeing the ball up at the Castle Course on Saturday after Caddie Golf Tours managed to secure one of the last available times from the excellent "March Offer" of a sandwich & drink, two course lunch and a round of golf for £59 pounds per golfer. View down to 18th green Castle Course As we will be teeing off at 14.20pm a reverse of the offer with a fine lunch around one o'clock, a couple of range balls, the actual round and a wee sandwich post golf should suit the group just fine. Par 3 17th green None of the Oystercatchers have played the newest addition to the St. Andrews Links golf courses though I have caddied across it many times since it was opened in 2008. A quick glance at the BBC advanced weather forecast has a slightly overcast, but dry day for the match on Saturday.

Scottish Open, Castle Stuart Golf Links

The Boyne's decided this evening to brighten up their last couple of weeks by looking forward and booking a weekend at the Scottish Open Golf Championship in July, the week before the Open Championship. The tournament is being played, for the second year, at the stunning Castle Stuart Golf Links in the Highlands of Scotland, just a mile from Inverness. Last years Champion Luke Donald will return to defend his title along with the main players from the European Tour...I wonder if more golfers from the USA will participate this year considering that the event is on a "Scottish Links" course and a week before the Open Championship? The hotel has been booked, tickets for the tournament will be sourced over the next couple of weeks...good to have a wee event to look forward too!

Oystercatchers 1st Golf Competition 2012

Image
All systems go for the various team members of the Oystercatcher Golf Society...a rag bag of enthusiastic (so-so) golfers that put as much energy into the "socialising society" aspect of meeting twice a year as they do the golf. 2012's first outing begins this coming weekend and the omens are for fair weather, no rain, at the historic links of  www. northberwickgolfclub .com  . Two rounds of classic Scottish links golf has been booked to play, Saturday and Sunday, on the Championship links that is used for Final Qualifying when the Open Championship is held on the great Muirfield links only 5 minutes up the road. A wonderful pedigree and a golf course that I, along with most Scottish golfers, place in their Top 5 golf courses in Scotland. The added bonus this year will be the accommodation that Caddie Golf Tours have managed to secure for the group, and a massive thanks goes to the delightful owner of the 5 Star   www. northberwickgolflodge .co.uk/  , Emma...

Golf...today?!?

A beautiful day here at Home of Golf, Scotland, so the question is golf practice or golf?!? Dilemma!

St. Andrews Caddies Golf Club

A new golf club is in the latter stages of being established in St. Andrews, the Home of Golf. The 'St Andrews Caddies Golf Club' will officially launch on the 27th February 2012 proving that Auld Grey Toon and its legendary Caddies do not stand still and are intent on bucking the trend for doom & gloom in the golf industry. The web site is near completion, the Facebook page is up and running but no news on a G+ page as yet. I will be having a wee word in their ear! St. Andrews Tee Time Changes

Image
From the beginning of January 2012 the Old Course Ballot tee times have been printed 48 hours before play and, in a good move, the St. Andrews Links Trust have announced today that any tee times not allocated via the Ballot will be made available to golfers who contact their Reception (+44 (0)1334 466 666). These tee times will be on a first come first served basis and any available slots still to be filled can be accessed on the day by talking to the Old Course Starter in person. Now, before we bring out the band and set off the firework display, it should be pointed out that the only time of the year tee time slots are not fully taken up on the Old Course is during the low season, November-March, and the Links Trust will run this as a wee experiment until the end of this March. There is no reason for it not to work and it should prove popular as long as you recognise that you will be playing off 'astroturf' mats to protect the fairways. Overall a good move for tho...

Oystercatcher Golf Society at North Berwick

Image
The first 2012 golf outing for the OysterCatcher Golf Society will be held over the last weekend in February and the members will be residing in the wonderfully indulgent North Berwick Golf Lodge, www.northberwickgolflodge.co.uk , situated about a 25 minute drive south of Edinburgh. The golfers are booked on the historic West Links at North Berwick over the first couple of days. Two tee times have been arranged for Saturday 25th at 13.09 & 13.18pm and Sunday at 12.33 & 12.42pm. If I may suggest, the second round will allow the participants an opportunity to 'right' the shots lost the previous day. 'Perfection' the Par4 14th green North Berwick West Links The golf course was founded in 1832 and golf has been played over this links ever since. It is regulary used as a Final Qualifying venue when the Open Championship is held at Muirfield and will be again when the Open is played there in 2013. 2012 OysterCatcher Golf Society Weekend

Image
The first 2012 golf outing for the OysterCatcher Golf Society will be held over the last weekend in February and the members will be residing in the wonderfully indulgent North Berwick Golf Lodge, www.northberwickgolflodge.co.uk   The OysterCatcher 2012 Spring Competition will be played over a selection of the East Coast's best golf links: North Berwick West, Gullane 1&2, Dunbar and perhaps Craigielaw. Tee times are being actively pursued and should not present any problems at this time of year. Let the discussions begin about where we play. I will put out a wee thought to my fellow OysterCatcher Golf Society members that we may have to be physically prepared for what the Scottish golfing Gods will throw our way weather wise...it is February after all!
