It should be noted that the Open Championship is being played on the Old Course, for the 29th time, in July 2015 and the course will close for final preparations from 20th June until the 21st July. Caddie Golf Tours have assisted hundreds of golfers access the Old Course over the last nine years with good forward planning put in place. The most affordable route to achieve a tee time is to use the Advance Reservation Process from the St. Andrews Links Trust who will accept applications over a two week period beginning at 14:00pm BST on Wednesday 27th August through to Monday 15th September, 2014. They have decided this year to introduce a Ballot (lottery) to determine those successful in applying for tee times thus stopping the allocation of tee times on a first come fi...

Golf on Old Course Friday March 28th

Image
Specialised travel company Thistle Dubh, our friends over in Centennial Colorado USA, were in touch a few weeks ago to introduce two of their clients travelling to Europe, Scotland and golf at St. Andrews. They asked if we could arrange to get their golfers onto the Old Course which would round out their weekend of golf with the New Course and Carnoustie Championship already in the mix. Old Course St. Andrews Well, with a little bit of good fortune the two golfers from San Francisco, Tim a 10 hdcp and John a 9 hdcp, will be joining our very own John Boyne on the 1st tee of the Old Course on Friday at 07:00am. We three have the first tee time of the day and to paraphrase Colonel Kilgore "I love the smell of a golf course in the morning"...Fore! St. Andrews Visit

Image
I have a scheduled meeting with the Caddie Department of the St. Andrews Links Trust on Friday 21st February to discuss the 2014 golf season and my registration for what would be my 13th year as a caddie on the links courses at St. Andrews. Putting on 1st green Old Course St. Andrews If we have time there is the possibility of a round on the Old Course in the afternoon as the BBC Weather forecast for Friday is looking fairly decent if a wee bit windy. The Ballot tee time draw for golf on the Old Course has plenty of spaces after 12 noon, as one would expect at this time of year.

October Old Course Tee Times

Image
As the daylight hours shorten all too quickly here in St. Andrews so do the available hours to golf upon the Old Course. The following 'link' to the officially published Old Course tee times for Wednesday 23rd October shows the first drive, from the 1st tee, will be struck at 08.00am and the last drive at 13.20pm. Swilken Bridge Old Course St. Andrews http://www.standrews.org.uk/Ballot/Ballot-Results?date=16/10/2013 This is still a good time to come and golf in St. Andrews and Scotland, as can be seen from the photograph taken last week the sun does shine at the Home of Golf, you take what you get and play through what is given to you. The prices on the Old Course drop by 50 British Pounds during the last couple of weeks in October and the hotels in the town offer some super stay & play packages. Monday 8th April, 2013, Ballot tee time sheet for the Old Course at St. Andrews and Mr B. Duffy must know a few people as his 06.50am time is 'unofficial' and he is heading out as a single golfer. Rather Unusual. http://www.standrews.org.uk/Booking/Ballot.aspx/?date=08/04/2013 The Starter's Hut & 1st tee of the Old Course at St. Andrews Upon scrolling down the Ballot one comes upon an interesting group with full forenames rather than initials being stated, again highly unusual, and each a female golfer...Jan, Diana, Pauline, Claire, Elizabeth, Nicole, Joanna, Shiona, Sue, Ann, Vivien & Di. This could be good fun and I do believe that these girls may just coincide with my arrival.

St. Andrews Golf Tour May 2013

"Is the Old Course a must play on this tour?"  If this is a one-off trip the answer will probably be a resounding  YES  and serious thought must now be given on how you get a tee time at this historic golf course. I thought it would be a good idea to write a piece about preparing a golf tour to Scotland and St. Andrews in particular.  The iconic Old Course view There are t ens of thousands of golfers from across the World who have a desire to make a pilgrimage to the Home of Golf and advanced  planning is strongly recommended as this will assist in getting you guaranteed tee times  to golf the legendary Scottish Links especially those of the Old Course in St. Andrews, Muirfield, Royal Troon, Turnberry, Carnoustie and Prestwick.
