On The Old Course St Andrews at The Open

Image
Well at least one of Caddie Golf Tours has got out onto the Old Course during the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews. LB has received her Ralph Lauren jacket and hat plus a few other essentials that are required for her Marshall duties out at the Par 4, Bobby Jones, 10th hole. LB has practice day duties today and tomorrow and is expecting the Old Course to be extremely busy as all the competitors for this years Open Championship have arrived. The competition begins on Thursday 16th July 2015.

Golfers arrive St. Andrews

Image
Our San Francisco golfers arrived in St. Andrews this evening and we meet in the legendary Dunvegan Hotel, 120 yards from the Old Course, to have a wee chat about the golf arranged this weekend. Dunvegan Hotel & Bar St. Andrews After a couple of business (heavy) meetings in Paris and London the golfers have reached the peace and quiet of St. Andrews, and my goodness the classic Scottish links golf lined up for these two chaps will allow them to be subsumed into golf in Scotland...without them even realising it! The 18th Tee Old Course, St Andrews The weekend itinerary follows, it is intense, a degree of fitness is required, but my goodness it is good:  28th March 7:00am Old Course, St. Andrews 28th March 1:00pm New Course, St. Andrews 29th March 7:50am Old Course, St. Andrews 29th March 1:30pm Kingsbarns Golf Links, St. Andrews 30th March 7:30am Jubilee Course, St. Andrews 30th March 2:00pm Carnoustie Championship, Dundee The bridge to 18th green Car...

St. Andrews Visit

Image
I have a scheduled meeting with the Caddie Department of the St. Andrews Links Trust on Friday 21st February to discuss the 2014 golf season and my registration for what would be my 13th year as a caddie on the links courses at St. Andrews. Putting on 1st green Old Course St. Andrews If we have time there is the possibility of a round on the Old Course in the afternoon as the BBC Weather forecast for Friday is looking fairly decent if a wee bit windy. The Ballot tee time draw for golf on the Old Course has plenty of spaces after 12 noon, as one would expect at this time of year.

Return of Visiting Golfers to Old Course

Image
The Old Course at St. Andrews has been closed to local and visiting golfers since Monday 6th May due to the R&A Golf Club playing their annual Spring Meeting. Here is the official tee time sheet for today: http://www.standrews.org.uk/Ballot/Ballot-Results?date=09/05/2013 R&A Clubhouse Old Course St. Andrews Today, Thursday 9th May, is the last day of the competition and the Ballot will open up tomorrow for locals and visitors alike. The majority of the caddies are delighted and this marks the real beginning of the caddie golf season where many will be looking to hit two rounds a day Monday - Friday with a single round flung in on Saturday or Sunday. I personally will be aiming for 8 rounds per week with the weekend being kept free for competition golf with my St. Andrews Golf Club. The following link shows the official tee times for tomorrow Friday 10th May with play beginning at 06.30am and going through to 17.50pm. I do think that the last tee time might struggle ...

1st Caddie Round of 2013 on Old Course

Image
Finally...my 2013 caddie season on the links of St. Andrews begins tomorrow 28th March at 10.10am with Klaus, from Germany, who I caddied with last July. He has kept in touch via a few emails and informed me in December that he and Marion, his wife, had secured their tee time on the Old Course. The stroll up 18th fairway of the Old Course It will obviously be good to be back out on the great links and as a bonus we will be staying for the weekend to open our holiday home (read caravan), prepare it for the season ahead, play some golf, meet some friends and enjoy life back in the Kingdom of Golf.

New Web Site for St. Andrews Links Trust

Image
the new St. Andrews Links Trust web site has been released onto the internet.  http://www.standrews.org.uk/ The re-branding of the signage on the courses, shuttle carts, clothing etc with Black & Gold that began last year continues throughout the site.   The revamped iconic 1st tee box on the Old Course It looks clean, shiny & new.  The important thing is the content and from my initial click through all your questions about golf in St. Andrews will be answered. The site has a good simple and concise layout that is easily followed. Good touch to get the 2014 Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley, to do a wee video promotion of the Old Course. Both he and the Links share Allianz as a sponsor. http://www.standrews.org.uk/Play/Courses/Old-Course/Lesson-Plans/ Please remember to take advantage of the 'insider information' that Caddie Golf Tours have built up over 12 years caddying and 40 plus years of golfing in Scotland. I can answer all your r...

St. Andrews Golf Tour May 2013

Image
"Is the Old Course a must play on this tour?"  If this is a one-off trip the answer will probably be a resounding  YES  and serious thought must now be given on how you get a tee time at this historic golf course. I thought it would be a good idea to write a piece about preparing a golf tour to Scotland and St. Andrews in particular.  The iconic Old Course view There are t ens of thousands of golfers from across the World who have a desire to make a pilgrimage to the Home of Golf and advanced  planning is strongly recommended as this will assist in getting you guaranteed tee times  to golf the legendary Scottish Links especially those of the Old Course in St. Andrews, Muirfield, Royal Troon, Turnberry, Carnoustie and Prestwick. Practice putting green Old Course St. Andrews These great golf courses are the ones that generally appear at the top of the 'must golf' list for those who travel to Scotland and are therefore oversubscrib...

2012 OysterCatcher Golf Society Weekend

Image
The first 2012 golf outing for the OysterCatcher Golf Society will be held over the last weekend in February and the members will be residing in the wonderfully indulgent North Berwick Golf Lodge, www.northberwickgolflodge.co.uk   The OysterCatcher 2012 Spring Competition will be played over a selection of the East Coast's best golf links: North Berwick West, Gullane 1&2, Dunbar and perhaps Craigielaw. Tee times are being actively pursued and should not present any problems at this time of year. Let the discussions begin about where we play. I will put out a wee thought to my fellow OysterCatcher Golf Society members that we may have to be physically prepared for what the Scottish golfing Gods will throw our way weather wise...it is February after all!
