St. Andrews Caddie Pavilion

Image
There had been talk for a number of years about the suitability of the Old Course Caddie Pavilion and the number of caddies that use it day in, day out, whether it really was 'fit for purpose' now that we are into the second decade of the 21st Century. There will be 140-160 registered caddies working the St. Andrews golf courses during the height of the season and this wee building has had its' day. It was demolished at the end of the 'official' 2013 golf season, in November, and a temporary pavilion has been installed 100 yards down the right side of the 1st fairway. A little bit of the romance may have disappeared, but it is temporary. I have known this old building since the spring of 2002 when I first came, anxiously, strolling past the R&A Clubhouse and 1st tee of the Old Course to be accepted, hopefully, into the ranks of St Andrews' caddies. With a score or more guys hanging around the outside of the pavilion, and another 20 or...

The Olson Fourball 1st tee Old Course What a delightful surprise last week when opening my gmail to find a raft of photographs, taken in July of this year, of returning golfer Joshua Olson, his playing partners and yours truly on the Old Course at St. Andrews. Josh in discussion with Caddie Golf Tours' Boyne Joshua drives off 17th Road hole tee Caddie Boyne assisting Mike at 17th Road green Dean, Scott, Mike and Josh on Swilken Bridge, Old Course Mike still listening to Caddie Boyne, which was encouraging,  as we discuss approach to 18th green Joshua and Caddie Boyne hanging out at the Old Course This was a lovely set of photographs to receive from Josh that brought back good memories of a truly wonderful summer spent in St. Andrews. 2014 Scottish Links Golf Tour - Real Golf

Image
This is one super golf tour of Scotland that, if we may suggest, is only to be recommended to seriously fit golfers who are well and truly prepared to play x11 rounds (at least) of Championship golf over nine days. Carnoustie Championship, Par4 2nd 'Gulley' The Chicago Boys are one such dedicated group with six having low single handicap figures and the remaining members made up of solid mid handicap enthusiasts. During their last tour they played x12 rounds in seven days! It should be remembered that these golf courses regard themselves as walking courses, no carts, therefore a decent level of fitness will be required to undertake a tour such as this.  The golfers are staying in a mix of 4 and 5 Star accommodation which will certainly help caress their bodies after a day spent out on our Championship Links. Travel is by luxury coach. At the time of writing there is o nly five months until the first golf ball is struck at the magnificent Kingsbarns Golf Links an...

A busy week for Caddie Golf Tours that has involved the drafting of six Scottish Golf Tours for golfers from as far afield as Sweden (2 groups), New York, Chicago, Germany and our close neighbours England, going to all parts of Scotland here at the Home of Golf. Royal Aberdeen Golf Course A refreshing and subtle change seems to be taking place with our overseas visitors, noticed through these last couple of seasons, and it is showing itself through how many are going directly to the Highlands of Scotland. They are either passing on St. Andrews completely or using the legendary golfing mecca as their final destination which allows them to play on many of the historic links golf courses in the north of the country. Take your pick from the following: Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Brora, Tain, and the newly established Castle Stuart Golf Links which are all in the Inverness area, then just a wee bit south, still on the East Coast, we have Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay, Fraserburgh, Murcar a...

The Team at Caddie Golf Tours

Image
Caddie Golf Tours are preparing for 2014 and beyond with the addition of backroom support, now official, from Lorna Boyne and Andrew Thomson.
