A wonderful days golf was organised for the St. Andrews Links caddies at the stunningly beautiful Dukes Course situated above the 'auld grey toon' of St. Andrews with simply magnificent panoramic views across the historic old town, the surrounding countryside and the sea.
The view from the clubhouse overlooking the 18th green with St. Andrews beyond.
The Golf Manager of the championship Dukes Course, David Scott, was kind enough to arrange six tee times with our very own David Coyne, laying on bacon rolls and coffee upon arrival plus a truly memorable 'High Tea' after our round was completed. A fantastic experience that all the caddies are looking forward to repeating annually. The 'Club Sandwich' was quite probably the best that our well traveled bunch of caddies had ever eaten. This was then topped by a delightful selection of scones and cakes just to finish off what was a tremendous meal.
Badgers, the 6th green at this Par 5.
The golf course was originally designed by the legendary Peter Thomson, five time Open champion, and has seen a big redevelopment by Herb Kohler who also owns the world renowned Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews, the US Open venue at Whistling Straits and Blackwood Run golf complex in the USA.
Braw View, the Par4 13th hole.
We got a perfect day for golf at the Dukes Course as the photographs show with the sun shining upon this gorgeous golf course. The golf may not have been a match for the weather but we certainly all enjoyed ourselves. The golf course has five different tee positions, the majority of us played of the White at 6130 yards while our 'big hitters' played from the Blue at 7002 yards.
The St. Andrews Caddies inside the lovely Dukes Clubhouse.
I cannot recommend the Dukes highly enough. It is certainly one of the best inland golf courses I have played in Scotland and to have it situated only a couple of miles from St. Andrews is a great bonus and delightful change from playing the classic links golf associated with Scotland.
The staff at the Dukes made us very welcome and the facilities within the clubhouse are exemplary as was the condition of the golf course, and boy-oh-boy those greens were the fastest we have putted on all year!
