Dunhill Links 1st day: Carnoustie.



What a really good golf course Carnoustie is. Tough but fair and in todays conditions, a wee breeze, Autumnal cold with a watery sun it was perhaps as benign as it can get.

Our Pro golfer, Richard Finch, shot a -1 under par score that should have been better but for two bogeys at 16 & 17. Our team score finished up at -5. Not bad, though we will have to score at least that again over the next two days to have an outside chance of qualifying as one of the twenty amateurs allowed to play on Sunday.

Thomas Bjorn leads the competition after a blistering 64 at Kingsbarns Links. We are lined up at the Old Course tomorrow morning with a forecast of 'light rain' all day though thankfully the wind is to be light as well! The weather on Sunday is also 'light rain' but with winds of 20-25 mph! Thank goodness we have played and posted our score from Carnoustie!

St Andrews Winter Golf

The official winter golf season has begun in St Andrews and it is marked by a reduction in green fees as well as the annual introduction of the 'fairway mats' which appeared on the Old Course on 10th November and are set to remain until 31st March 2021. The fairway mat protects the turf during these cold months, allowing play to continue on the legendary St Andrews Links with a perfect lie each time and helping to present the fairways in peak condition for the new golf season. They will also be used on the New, Jubilee, Eden and Strathtyrum courses from 1st December until 12th March 2021. The Castle Course will close this weekend, Sunday 29th November, for its' winter rest until it returns for play on 1st March 2021 when it will also have the fairway mats in use until the end of the month.

The St. Andrews Town Match 2013

St. Andrews held the 100th playing of the Town Match on Saturday 14th September. This historic event is played between the local & international members of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club against the two main local golf clubs in the town: St. Andrews Golf Club and the New Club. 1st tee Old Course at St. Andrews Scotland There were 171 foursomes matches played over the Old Course, New Course, Jubilee Course and 1/2 dozen or so were even were golfed on the Strathtyrum Course. This amounts to 684 golfers in what must rank as one of the largest one day golf competitions in the world. Cruden Bay Golf Club

To help entice you avid golfers out there to come over to Scotland for a golf tour this summer I will be posting some pictures of my favourite Scottish golf courses over the next few weeks.  It is going to be a super golf season here in Scotland with the Open Championship returning to Turnberry in July and the majority of our major golf courses having retained last years prices.
