St. Andrews Weekend
On Friday past LB and I packed up the car with more gear for the caravan based a few miles out of St. Andrews at Clayton Caravan Park. This was the first visit after the harsh winter and we were relieved to find everything in order...no bust water pipes or leaks, thank goodness.
Once the gas fire was on, the car unpacked, and the van had heated up we made a move into St. Andrews to pick up some essentials then had a guiness and glass of wine in Ogstan's on North Street. A good start to the weekend.
On Saturday we planned to play a wee round of golf on the Strathtyrum course at St. Andrews after lunch in the Eden Clubhouse and though the weather was fine, if a bit chilly, the sting was a bloody strong wind of perhaps 25-30mph that eventually took it's toll and we walked in after catching up with a couple of hackers at the par3 16th. Poor wee LB was whacked! Thank goodness we had not gone onto either the Eden or New courses that I had wanted to play.
An evening had been arranged in the Dunvegan Bar with Scotty B to catch up with some stories, sink a few guiness and have some to eats. The Dunvegan was mobbed and we were lucky to get a corner table. A lovely big hug, for both of us, from the owner Sheena when she spied us from behind the bar and a quick chat about her recent golf holiday to Turkey and the hopes for the season ahead.
Sheena then let LB know that it has been 17 years since Jack and her took over the Dunvegan Bar which got me thinking when it was that I first stepped into the Dunvegan? April 2002...eight years ago! This coming golf season will be my ninth caddying on the St. Andrews Links. Astonishing that I've been allowed to return and great credit to LB for her support in letting me do so.
The video link below is from our good pal Andy Brown and his HomeofGolf.tv series. This episode concentrates on the Dunvegan Bar with Andy interviewing the owners Jack & Sheena.
