St. Andrews Cathedral

St. Andrews is a a truly wonderful old town and here are a few photographs taken a year or so ago of the ancient walls that are around the ruins of the Cathedral, which was the tallest building in Europe during the 13th Century.

Identifying My Golf Ball

I have over the years seen, in competition golf and fun bounce games, that it is really important to have a clear unique identification on your golf ball. I played in a wee competition a few weeks ago and all three golfers had one red dot marked next to the Titliest brand name! What are the chances? Boyne's identifying mark. After a wee think that evening I decided to go for a four dot two colour combination. The reasoning was that no other golfer is going to be this anal to sit for an hour and put a mark like it on his golf balls. I may need to get a life?!?

2025 St Andrews Caddie Fee

The 2025 St Andrews caddie fee is to rise from £65 to £75 per individual caddie. The St Andrews Links Trust recommends, as a guide, that gratuities begin from £35. Golfers should set aside a minimum of £110 ($135-140) for a caddie round. If the service has been excellent then the tip should reflect this adding another £20+ The St Andrews base caddie fee has been £65 for since 2020/2021. This increase is overdue and mirrors what the majority of real golfers have been paying recently. 2025 caddie fees at other prominent Scottish courses follow: Carnoustie £70 Kingsbarns £70 Dumbarnie £70 Royal Troon £65 North Berwick £70 Royal Dornoch £70 Royal Aberdeen £60 Nairn GC £60

St. Andrews Caddie Pavilion

There had been talk for a number of years about the suitability of the Old Course Caddie Pavilion and the number of caddies that use it day in, day out, whether it really was 'fit for purpose' now that we are into the second decade of the 21st Century. There will be 140-160 registered caddies working the St. Andrews golf courses during the height of the season and this wee building has had its' day. It was demolished at the end of the 'official' 2013 golf season, in November, and a temporary pavilion has been installed 100 yards down the right side of the 1st fairway. A little bit of the romance may have disappeared, but it is temporary. I have known this old building since the spring of 2002 when I first came, anxiously, strolling past the R&A Clubhouse and 1st tee of the Old Course to be accepted, hopefully, into the ranks of St Andrews' caddies.
