Kingsbarns Distillery, St Andrews

With unpredictable weather yesterday and having golfed the Eden Course St Andrews on Good Friday with our Easter weekend guests we decided to take a day out and visit the Kingsbarns Distillery, located 1/2 mile outside our village of Kingsbarns.


I have been several times to the Kingsbarns Whisky Distillery, naturally, it was founded by a fellow caddie and now friend Doug Clement and it was truly wonderful witnessing his dream project of bringing a whisky distillery to Fife come to reality.


The first bottles of Kingsbarns Malt Whisky will be available in mid 2018 and in the meantime the gift shop offers a wide selection of Wemyss malt whisky's and their speciality gins. The Wemyss family links to the whisky industry go back to the 1800s and in Scotland they have been a prominent family since the 1500s. They have joined with Doug to produce and promote Kingsbarns Malt Whisky.


Our guests enjoyed their wee visit to the Distillery and we certainly look forward to many more whisky tours and tastings with our visiting golfers through the 2016 golf season especially after they have golfed on the wonderful Kingsbarns Golf Links, host to the 2017 Ricoh Women's British Open.

St Andrews Winter Golf

The official winter golf season has begun in St Andrews and it is marked by a reduction in green fees as well as the annual introduction of the 'fairway mats' which appeared on the Old Course on 10th November and are set to remain until 31st March 2021. The fairway mat protects the turf during these cold months, allowing play to continue on the legendary St Andrews Links with a perfect lie each time and helping to present the fairways in peak condition for the new golf season. They will also be used on the New, Jubilee, Eden and Strathtyrum courses from 1st December until 12th March 2021. The Castle Course will close this weekend, Sunday 29th November, for its' winter rest until it returns for play on 1st March 2021 when it will also have the fairway mats in use until the end of the month.

The St. Andrews Town Match 2013

St. Andrews held the 100th playing of the Town Match on Saturday 14th September. This historic event is played between the local & international members of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club against the two main local golf clubs in the town: St. Andrews Golf Club and the New Club. 1st tee Old Course at St. Andrews Scotland There were 171 foursomes matches played over the Old Course, New Course, Jubilee Course and 1/2 dozen or so were even were golfed on the Strathtyrum Course. This amounts to 684 golfers in what must rank as one of the largest one day golf competitions in the world. Cruden Bay Golf Club

To help entice you avid golfers out there to come over to Scotland for a golf tour this summer I will be posting some pictures of my favourite Scottish golf courses over the next few weeks.  It is going to be a super golf season here in Scotland with the Open Championship returning to Turnberry in July and the majority of our major golf courses having retained last years prices.
