Winter Golf Old Course St Andrews

Image
We met at the Old Course St Andrews Starter's hut for our tee time at 9:40am. There was a wee discussion about the weather which was rather damp. Was it going to relent? Was it going to get worse? Did we want to golf? In my opinion we have an Old Course tee time that many would love to have and we should just get on to the course and golf! So after a pep talk with my 'enthusiastic' golfing partners we prepared to play. The light drizzle continued through to the 8th hole then stopped. The second of my golf matches with LB was on. This is an all year competition with LB getting 20 shots, the difference between our current handicaps. I am an 8 and she 28. I got slaughtered. 3 down at the turn LB did not ease up and never gave me any real hope of pulling back the ever increasing deficit, closing out the match 5 & 4 on the 14th green. Obviously we played in from there with LB continuing to golf well on the legendary Old Course while I golfed indifferent...

Winter Golf St Andrews

There is a common misconception that little golf is played in St Andrews Scotland during the winter months because of our extreme weather. May I assure you all that we are not buckled under a ton of snow, rain and howling arctic winds, well not all the time. I am finding that now we have relocated from a wee village north of Glasgow to our new permanent house in the village of Kingsbarns, 6 miles down the coast from St Andrews, that winter golf is very much apart of life for the local St Andrean golfers. All the local golf clubs, including mine at the St Andrews Golf Club, have a full program of winter competitions from beginning of January through to the end of March that I can participate in, if the mood takes, as well as some fun golf with family and friends. The winter astro turf mat at St Andrews The visiting golfer should be made aware that golf on the St Andrews Links courses during the winter months, November through to March, is played from an astro turf ...

We will be happy to discuss and arrange your trip to the Home of Golf...Fore!

2013 Golf

Image
Wrapped up after a February round on the Old Course St. Andrews I truly love this time year...sure it is cold and one has to wear the appropriate clothing but it is good to get out on the golf course and swing a club. Golf 2013 is just around the corner with the, hoped for, warmth of a Scottish Spring replacing the brutal cold of January and February.
