The 2021 winter green fees for golf at St Andrews have been set and will be valid until 31st March 2021. Low Season 1st November - 31st March 2021   Old Course £ 98  New Course £ 43 Jubilee Course £ 43 Eden Course through December and January will be played as two 9 hole layouts and green fee for each nine holes £14. The official winter golf season has begun in St Andrews and it is marked by a reduction in green fees as well as the annual introduction of the 'fairway mats' which appeared on the Old Course on 10th November and are set to remain until 31st March 2021. The fairway mat protects the turf during these cold months, allowing play to continue on the legendary St Andrews Links with a perfect lie each time and helping to present the fairways in peak condition for the new golf season. They will also be used on the New, Jubilee, Eden and Strathtyrum courses from 1st December until 12th March 2021. The Castle Course will close this weekend, Sunday 29th November, for its' winter rest until it returns for play on 1st March 2021 when it will also have the fairway mats in use until the end of the month.

The delightful Christer Andersson and his 3 golfing friends from Sweden had a wonderful 4 golfing days in St Andrews this week with the advice of Caddie Golf Tours. The golfers purchased the St Andrews 3 day Links Ticket that can be used over 7 days, offering unlimited golf on all the St Andrews courses, except the Old Course. A great deal. Mr Andersson drives 1st tee Castle Course. The 4 golfers golfed the Eden, Jubilee, Castle and New courses at the St Andrews Links. They were not successful in obtaining an Old Course tee time during their 4 days, but look forward to playing it next year...Fore!

The Ballot As golfers begin to shake of winter and prepare to golf 2017 many are going to be focusing their attention on traveling to golf in Scotland and the Old Course St Andrews in particular. Answer: The Old Course Ballot This is the historic lottery held by the St Andrews Links Trust every afternoon, except Friday, for a number of un-allocated tee times on the Old Course 2 days before you wish to play. The St Andrews Golf Club confirmed my membership of their golf club last week and sent through a list of this years competitions to be played on the wonderful St Andrews links courses that include: Old Course, New Course, Jubilee Course, Eden Course and Castle Course. My own personal golf challenge during the 2017 golf season is to retain the 8 handicap I have (mysteriously) held for the last couple of years and goodness more than a little help from the golfing gods will not go amiss! A super year of golf is going to be enjoyed here in St Andrews no matter what develops with my handicap! You may not be a member of a local St Andrews Golf Club but you too can visit, play golf and enjoy the historic town of St Andrews. Today I get the opportunity to redeem myself in the St Andrews Golf Club Championship Qualifying Round 2 on the New Course at St Andrews. The first round was played last week on the wonderful Eden Course at St Andrews where I managed to shoot a ridiculous 95, so though I have very little chance of making the qualifying score I will go out with a positive attitude, a wee bit of good humour and play some better golf, hopefully.

This last week I was delighted to receive, through the post, confirmation from the St Andrews Golf Club of my Membership for this year and the competition Fixture List for the 2015 golf season. With the 'interruption' of the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews in July, the Old Course is closed for 4 weeks, and the New, Jubilee and Eden courses are also affected with the assembly of the infrastructure for the great event, but all the St Andrew golf clubs do find a way to massage the golf calendar to include our local competitions. I did manage to get down to, and retain, an 8 handicap in 2014 so this year my challenge is to enter the 1st tier at the St Andrews Golf Club and for that I require a 7 handicap or less. I am going to need some seriously good and productive practice...Fore!                                                       ...

A note to inform all that the majority of courses will be bringing to an end their reduced pricing structure that is in operation during the winter months and the first couple of weeks April. Now that we are finally into the Spring, I’m looking forward to the 2014 golf season getting up and running. Having promised myself that I would definitely take some golf lessons over the winter, but once again I haven’t yet got round to it. St. Andrews held the 100th playing of the Town Match on Saturday 14th September. This historic event is played between the local & international members of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club against the two main local golf clubs in the town: St. Andrews Golf Club and the New Club. 1st tee Old Course at St. Andrews Scotland There were 171 foursomes matches played over the Old Course, New Course, Jubilee Course and 1/2 dozen or so were even were golfed on the Strathtyrum Course. This amounts to 684 golfers in what must rank as one of the largest one day golf competitions in the world. View over 13th green New Course Well this is an unexpected event for our own Caddie Golf Tours founder Boyne. I have managed to get through two qualifying rounds over the Eden & New courses at St. Andrews to reach the last sixteen of the St. Andrews Club Championship, second tier handicap players 11-17, and it now becomes Head to Head match play. The true golf game. The first round is played over the New Course on Tuesday at 17.44pm. 

My two golfing guests, Andy & David, duly arrived from Glasgow this morning at the St. Andrews Links Clubhouse where I was waiting to inform that we were teeing off from on New Course at 10.24am. Plenty of time to enjoy a bacon sandwich, coffee and tea before hitting the astounding New Course. Post bacon sandwich at St. Andrews Links Clubhouse  A wee bit cold with cloud cover and winds from the east that eventually burned off and the second nine was bathed in sunshine that progressively warmer as our round continued, excellent. Par 3 ninth tee & scores are checked while we wait to tee off A Stableford Competition was played today: 1point Bogey, 2 points Par, 3 points Birdie, 4 points eagle. I played rather poorly today and only hit 24 points but David and Andy shot 32 & 31 respectively in tricky windy conditions. Good putting from both...and they lost less golf balls than I!!! "Is the Old Course a must play on this tour?"  If this is a one-off trip the answer will probably be a resounding  YES  and serious thought must now be given on how you get a tee time at this historic golf course. One can be assured, at least once a week, as I caddie over the legendary links of St. Andrews that the subject 'golf's small world' will pop up. This was highlighted on last Wednesday when my caddie buddie Scotty & I were asked to go straight down to the New Course from the 18th green of the Old Course, and catch up with a x4ball that had teed off and would probably be on the 2nd green by the time we got there. So it proved. My golfing buddy from Phillidelphia, Alan, posted this little vid on You Tube the other day. From the top of the rise above the 5th green & 6th tee on the Old Course he films the panorama of the Old Course, New Course , Eden estuary, St. Andrews town and yours truly popping up at the end...I can never resist a camera!. This was taken during 2009 and Alan will return in July this year bringing along the Guru Tony (as mentioned in the vid), Shane and Todd .  Yet more new blood for the Old Course!

A wonderful weekend of golf lies ahead of your St. Andrews caddie. The first of the premier annual amateur competitions begins this Saturday with the St. Rule Trophy.  This is played by the leading lady amateur golfers from across Great Britain, Europe and the rest of the world that have a handicap of 4 or better. In this years event I shall be caddying for one of Scotland's bright young talents, Laura Murray. We met in this very event in 2007, when I was caddying for the British Ladies Amateur Champion, Heather MacRae, Laura played in our grouping and then was once again in our trio of players for the 2008 tournament, both times with her father carrying her bag. I met Laura in earlier this year, in March, at the Scottish Golf Show  and it was there that she asked if I would be interested in working for her during the St. Rule Trophy.
