2016 Showman at Blairgowrie Golf Club

Image
I was delighted to be invited to take part in the annual 'Showman Golf Weekend' held at the wonderful parkland Blairgowrie Golf Club in the Angus region of Scotland, only an hour north of St Andrews. Boyne on 1st tee Rosemount Golf Club The golfing gang from the Glasgow area always play the legendary Showman this 1st weekend in October at a venue in Scotland kept secret until the very last moment. I am usually involved with caddying at the European Tour's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship but as this is a Ryder Cup year the Dunhill tournament is pushed forward a week, (congratulations USA on your victory), which means I was available to golf with the 'Showman Golfers' and jumped at the opportunity when the invite was extended to me. 1st tee Rosemount Course Our fourball, Ally, Boyne, Neil & Andy The competition this year was over all three courses at Blairgowrie Golf Club, the 9 hole Wee Course and then the 'big' 18 hole Rosemount and ...

Ryder Cup Trophy Photographs

Image
There are occasions when you happen to be in the correct place at the right time, and thankfully it finally happened to me. So, I am walking through the Scottish Golf Show on Sunday, the final day, during the last hour of the event and there in front of me is the Ryder Cup. It had been on display for that weekend, getting photographed with the golfers and visitors attending the show who had to queue in long lines to get their picture taken with it. Obviously I was delighted to stumble across the iconic Ryder Cup with nobody in sight and grab a couple of photographs before it was locked away in the 'vault' to be presented to the winning team at Gleneagles in September. I am sure many of us watched and loved the intensity of this years competition from the players and the spectators. I thought it was a marvelous tournament played in good sportsmanship. The Ryder Cup is an example of true golf...match play. If you wish to golf in Scotland please contact myself, Joh...

Turnberry Ailsa Course, Scotland

Image
A fantastic couple of days at Turnberry for our 8 New York golfers, The Bamundo Party, who golfed the Ailsa Championship and up the road at Royal Troon Golf Course. Turnberry Hotel, Ayrshire, Scotland The sun shone and the legendary Open venue of the Ailsa Championship course played and looked absolutely beautiful. This is truly one of Scotland's greatest links golf courses and should not be left off any visiting golf party's itinerary. 18th green Ailsa Championship Course, Turnberry Putting out on 18th Ailsa Championship, Turnberry The recent sale of the Turnberry Resort to the American Donald Trump will see some alterations to the actual hotel rather than any major changes to the golf course and I am sure the R&A will be heavily involved if any are planned.

Golfers arrive St. Andrews

Image
Our San Francisco golfers arrived in St. Andrews this evening and we meet in the legendary Dunvegan Hotel, 120 yards from the Old Course, to have a wee chat about the golf arranged this weekend. Dunvegan Hotel & Bar St. Andrews After a couple of business (heavy) meetings in Paris and London the golfers have reached the peace and quiet of St. Andrews, and my goodness the classic Scottish links golf lined up for these two chaps will allow them to be subsumed into golf in Scotland...without them even realising it! The 18th Tee Old Course, St Andrews The weekend itinerary follows, it is intense, a degree of fitness is required, but my goodness it is good:  28th March 7:00am Old Course, St. Andrews 28th March 1:00pm New Course, St. Andrews 29th March 7:50am Old Course, St. Andrews 29th March 1:30pm Kingsbarns Golf Links, St. Andrews 30th March 7:30am Jubilee Course, St. Andrews 30th March 2:00pm Carnoustie Championship, Dundee The bridge to 18th green Car...

2014 Scottish Links Golf Tour - Real Golf

Image
This is one super golf tour of Scotland that, if we may suggest, is only to be recommended to seriously fit golfers who are well and truly prepared to play x11 rounds (at least) of Championship golf over nine days. Carnoustie Championship, Par4 2nd 'Gulley' The Chicago Boys are one such dedicated group with six having low single handicap figures and the remaining members made up of solid mid handicap enthusiasts. During their last tour they played x12 rounds in seven days! It should be remembered that these golf courses regard themselves as walking courses, no carts, therefore a decent level of fitness will be required to undertake a tour such as this.  The golfers are staying in a mix of 4 and 5 Star accommodation which will certainly help caress their bodies after a day spent out on our Championship Links. Travel is by luxury coach. At the time of writing there is o nly five months until the first golf ball is struck at the magnificent Kingsbarns Golf Links an...
