The  First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced today, that from Friday 16th April travel across Scotland for non-essential purposes can resume for all areas, to allow outdoor socializing and recreation. The country will continue with significant easing of COVID-19 restrictions and the reopening of our tourism industry across all parts of Scotland on 26th April, with travel allowed from England and Wales. It was a delight this morning to receive an early Christmas present from the St Andrews Golf Club and my membership for the 2020 golf season. The 'Fixture List' for 2020 states an amazing number of competitions and I will have to look closely to arrange dates throughout the year, if allowed...Fore!

The St Andrews Caddies annual golf match against our Swedish Vikings was held at the the truly wonderful Kingsbarns Golf Links for the 7th year. This great modern day Scottish links golf course played host to the 2017 Ricoh British Women's Open and is one of the venues for the European Tour Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. We are forever grateful to Kingsbarns Golf Links for allowing this match to be held here. The St Andrews Caddies were expecting a hard fought match this year and so it was with the last of the 8 head to head matches deciding the outcome. Those last 2 games produced a win for each side which resulted in a halved competition 3 1/2 > 3 1/2. A wonderful set of 8 match play games, that all competitors enjoyed, on one of Scotland's premier golf links in warm Spring sunshine. The St Andrews caddies got a fantastic day of golf on the Eden Course for our annual Dinger Bell Trophy and Stumpy Memorial Plaque, our thanks goes to the St Andrews Links Trust for their assistance with our tee times, it is truly appreciated. The field was a little light this year due to these two great caddie competition being played a month later than is usual but nonetheless they are still being played and we thank the competitors for turning out. I was delighted to be invited to take part in the annual 'Showman Golf Weekend' held at the wonderful parkland Blairgowrie Golf Club in the Angus region of Scotland, only an hour north of St Andrews. Boyne on 1st tee Rosemount Golf Club The golfing gang from the Glasgow area always play the legendary Showman this 1st weekend in October at a venue in Scotland kept secret until the very last moment. We have just completed this wonderful Highland and St Andrews Golf Tour for our client Mr C and his Lad's Golf Party when they are over from Washington, USA, in July 2016. Mr C will arrive first for a 3 day mini Highland Golf Tour before meeting with his four friends at Fraserburgh Golf Course in the North East of Scotland. We pick up Mr C at Glasgow Airport and transfer to Highlands and the first stage of his 10 days of Scottish links golf... On Monday as I approached the 17th Road green, whilst caddieing on the Old Course St Andrews, I pointed out to my golfer that the Open's Claret Jug Trophy was being photographed on the 18th tee by the R&A's photographer and we might be able to get our pictures taken with it. Timing is everything and we got lucky, also the photographer was very kind to let us have a few moments with this iconic little trophy that has been in existence since 1873 when it was presented at St Andrews after local golfer Tom Kidd who won with a two round total on the Old Course with 91 + 88 = 179. Curiously the first name on the Claret Jug belongs to the 1872 Champion, Young Tom Morris. There was no trophy to present the previous year when Young Tom won the 12th Open at Prestwick, for the fourth time in a row, so they inscribed his name before presenting it to Tom Kidd. I registered for the 2014 Caddie season on the Links at St. Andrews in early March and began carrying a bag at the end of the month with our returning golfers from Ireland being my first clients. Always good to see the lads from Cork and Dublin...with a pint or two enjoyed in good company post round. 17th fairway Old Course St. Andrews The caddying has been a little stop and start for me on the St. Andrews Links this April due in part to the high number of caddies that have been taken on at the beginning of the season, and the rotation system thus employed, but also the interest in Caddie Golf Tours over the last couple of years has lead to an increase in Scottish Golf Tours and inquiries for 2014/15 that the team are now concentrating on and enjoying organising.
